As a city situated around a precious but fragile lake environment, we look to balance growth with conservation of the natural assets that characterise Lake Macquarie and contribute so much to our enviable lifestyle.
Council does this by developing programs and policies that promote environmentally responsible behaviour in areas such as building practices, waste management, and water and energy use.
We also providing infrastructure that promotes active transport and healthy lifestyles, among many other initiatives.
Our annual Living Smart Festival offers residents the chance to discover ways they can introduce sustainable ideas and practices into their own lives.
This year’s Living Smart, at Speers Point Park on Saturday 23 September, offers a great program.
We will have television chef Paul West presenting sustainable cooking ideas, tiny houses on display, permaculture demonstrations, a native plant giveaway, group outdoor yoga classes, market stalls featuring local produce and products, kids’ activities and free entertainment.
Living Smart is the Hunter’s premier sustainability event. If you are interested in learning more about the small steps you can take towards leading a more sustainable life, don’t miss this fun, free festival.
