The competition closed last week, with 241 unique songs and over 100 artists and bands entered.
“For [us], building on the reputation of songwriting in the local community feels important for creating a sustainable musical culture in Newcastle,” competition project manager Kian West said.
“There are so many incredible artists in the region and it would be great to see more of the likes of The Screaming Jets and Silverchair.”
As well as bragging rights, the emerging artists are looking to take home the chance to take that next step in their career – the winner receives $10,000 in recording time and marketing.
The winning package includes 10 hours in the studio, media appearances and advertising, and a press pack with photography, video and design.
Competition voting is open now at tipjar.org.au/voting, and will close on Thursday, October 19.
