Senior school twirler, Keely Tanner, impressed in the One Baton division to take the first gold medal of the day for the Hunter baton twirling club.
Keely backed her opening performance up with a stunning gold performance alongside duet partner Tamika Bull.
Bull then joined Alyssa Hooper and Lillian Howe to win Rising Starz’s first silver of the day, and the win was all the more impressive considering it was the first time they had represented the club at the national championships.
Kimberley Swift, the head coach of the baton twirling organisation, said that she was proud of the performances of the team members that made the trip to Melbourne.
“Since establishing the club it has taken a lot of time and dedication from our athletes to rise to their current level,” she said. “I am very proud of all of our athletes and their achievements and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2018 brings.”
As well as the stand-out silver and gold performances in the early events, Sarah Coleman also won the Adult One Baton division to collect another gold, as well as placing second in Adult Strut.
Violet Turner added to the medal haul in the Junior Strut division with a third place finish, and the club’s single bronze medal.
