Bikers for Kids are again mobilising for their annual event, the Newcastle Toy Run, and this time they’ll be celebrating a major milestone – the community gathering will turn 40 this year.

The Toy Run is expected to attract more than 10,000 riders and enthusiasts, and as the 40th anniversary approaches the organisation looks back at their first ride in 1978, where 20 bikes attended.

“We are immensely grateful for the generous support provided by this iconic event and the many thousands of riders that take part,” Social Liaison Officer from the Salvation Army, Major Christine Martin, said. “We extend heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to Bikers For Kids and ride participants for this impressive 40 year anniversary.”

Through the Newcastle Toy Run, local businesses and motorbike enthuasists are given the opportunity to build awareness, collectively donate toys, or raise much-needed funds for distribution to needy children and families. The Toy Run will this year arrive at the new end location of Wickham Park, with riders finishing between 10am and 3pm on Sunday, December 3.
