There’s a massive line-up descending on Darby Street this March for a debut ‘micro music festival’, and it’s bursting at the seams with plenty of local talents.

That’s one of the main aims of Darby Street Live and its “intimate settings”, and Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes is excited to see the “fantastic talent of the city’s live musicians” showcased.
“Newcastle has always been known for its vibrant live music scene and we are determined for this to continue,” she said.
“This festival is all about creating great sounds in small spaces, and the range of artists in the line-up means there is something for everyone.”
Paris Grace, who won the judge’s vote at the Tip Jar Competition awards in November last year, will be one of the local talents ‘on show’, and she revealed she’s looking forward to “showing people what she’s been working on”.
“I’m really excited, it’s going to be cool to go there and show off what I’ve been doing, and get my name out there a little bit,” Grace said.
The 15-year-old solo artist will be playing five original songs and “two songs people will know a bit better”, and has asked those attending the festival to “give everyone a chance”.
“When you’re there, just stop and listen and see what all these artists have to say, and what they have to show off, and give everyone a chance while you’re listening,” she said.
Festival organiser Kian West said he was proud so many local arts and culture groups had come on board for the event.
“As an eternal optimist, I feel like there is a lot of opportunity currently to shift the way the local community interacts and accesses live music,” West said. “Culture isn’t a stagnant pond.”
“If you love Newcastle you should make the effort to stop in and support the event because that’s what it is all about.”
The festival will use locations all along Darby Street, including fashion stores Abicus, Ramjet and Betty Mim, as well as Cooks Hill Books & Records, Monella Gelato Bar, the Natural Tucker supermarket and licensed premises 5 Sawyers and The Hop Factory.
The laneway between Canton Story and Jean Bas will also be used for live music acts.
Darby Street Live will begin at 2pm on Saturday, March 24.
