The honour, announced by State Member for Wallsend Sonia Hornery, was given to Ms Davis due to her commitments to a number of enterprises that bring women to the front and promote healthy living.
As well as working on her premium quality mineral and natural makeup range Brave Comestics, and teaming up with Love Your Sister to develop F*ck Cancer Lipstick, Ms Davis battled through her mother’s fight with cancer.
Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and, as a result of the diagnosis, her mother switched to organic and vegan diets – a chance that inspired Ms Davis to make changes in her own life.
Her Brave Cosmetics range aims to remove harmful products in many hair and beauty care ranges, and promote women’s power through promotions of her products.
Sonia Hornery said she was impressed and inspired by Ms Davis’ life, and “applauded … the Wallsend Local Woman of the Year for 2018”.
“Rachel has turned adversity into success following her mother’s battle with breast cancer,” Ms Hornery said at the breakfast event.
“She has worked very hard to make a difference with her business, The Workshop Hair and Makeup Studio at Fletcher, and continues to work to help others find their brave. I congratulate Rachel on her award.
“It is recognition for the great work she has been doing in the Wallsend community. I wish everyone, regardless of their gender, a happy International Women’s Day.”
