THE Special Commission of Inquiry into alleged cover-ups of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church will require an extra week after two weeks of evidence in Newcastle.
The focus of the first two weeks was on allegations made by Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox that senior members of the police force ordered him to stop investigating child sex abuse within the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese.
The second lot of sittings, scheduled to start on June 24, will focus on allegations senior members of the Church concealed sex offences committed by clergy members.
However, before those allegations are examined, Commissioner Margaret Cunneen is expected to hear from a number of witnesses whom she was unable to hear from during the first two-week sitting.
