Alex Gordon Noble, a volunteer firefighter, was originally arrested on October 1.
He admitted to lighting 10 fires across Lake Macquarie between August and September.
The Rutherford man was re-arrested on Christmas Eve and will face court on the new charge today.
The fire in Catherine Hill Bay scorched about 3000 hectares from Doyalson to Cams Wharf and destroyed several other structures and three homes.
Noble has been suspended from his duties.
