Even though the competition's sponsor is the Advanced School of Beauty Therapy, its managing director Ann Morris said the event was about developing young women's confidence to take control of their futures.

"This competition isn't all about beauty; it's about fostering the talents of young women and giving them a platform to meet with business owners, learn public speaking skills and demonstrate their talents to a wide audience," she said.

Mrs Morris said judges would look for a young woman who could demonstrate a personal investment in the community.
