Newcastle and Lake Macquarie anglers reel in tailor

FISHING on local beaches has been lots of fun for anglers chasing tailor, with some healthy fish being caught on pilchards at night.

Bream have been another much sought-after species on both the beaches and estuaries.

Number seven beacon and around Stockton Bridge have been worth a look and any areas holding schooling mullet are favoured by bream.

Lake Macquarie has been fishing well for all manner of fish.

Whiting are still about on the sand flats in the lake.

This time of year they are a bit gun-shy after a long summer.

Fish as light as possible using live worms for bait and a berley with aniseed in it.

Arrow squid have been found throughout the lake.
