Politicians' pay freeze likely in federal budget

HIGHER petrol prices, government job cuts and a freeze on politicians' pay are all on the cards for the federal budget, which was due to be handed down as The Star went to print.

The government has already indicated it wants to lift the pension age to 70, as well as enforce a co-payment for doctor visits.

The budget will also contain a six-year road building plan worth more than $80 billion, which the government hopes will create thousands of jobs.
