Warmer weather brings bass to Lake Macquarie rivers

WELCOME to spring.

Just the thought of that brings joy on many levels - the first of which is bass season has opened.

Australian bass and estuary perch can be found in rivers below impoundments.

Lake Macquarie has once again been the standout location.

Swansea Channel continues to be the salmon playground.

Small soft plastics, either clear or opaque, fetch the best results.

Flathead have been feeding on the white bait in the lake and are about to start spawning.

Snapper have been caught at Broughton Island, but that's about the only fishing that's been going on from an offshore point of view.

Stockton breakwall has started to show signs of mulloway.

The rain has stirred up the fish and Lake St Clair has been fishing well for bass.
