The win was a much-needed boost for Newcastle after they were beaten 4-2 by A-League rivals Sydney FC on Wednesday.
Fullback Scott Neville marked his return from a torn anterior-cruciate ligament by scoring the first goal of the match in the 12th minute.
Neville won a corner before rising to meet Craig Goodwin's delivery with a powerful header to put the Jets one up.
Goodwin then doubled Newcastle's advantage 10 minutes before half-time when he was teed up by fellow winger James Virgili.
North Queensland struggled to fashion any clear chances in the match as Newcastle dominated proceedings.
Despite their superiority, it took the Jets until the 88th minute for fan favourite Joel Griffiths to score Newcastle's third and final goal.
