A GROUP of second year nursing students from the University of Newcastle will embark on a journey to China to learn more about delivering culturally appropriate care.

Student Jacqueline Dorby said the trip would help her improve her cultural knowledge.
“We get a chance to learn about Chinese health care in China,” she said.
“Being a nurse in Australia, it’s a very multi-cultural society, and it’s important we understand the importance of people’s background and their experiences in health care.
“It’s important that we can provide culturally competent care.”
Funded by the New Colombo Plan, they will travel with lecturer Dr Margaret Harris to Guangzhong where they will be partnered with Chinese students who visited the University of Newcastle in October.
They will visit the Sun Yat-sen University and local hospitals.
Ten students will set off on November 13 for the two week program.
