Beverley Steggles has been recognised for her tireless and wide-ranging volunteer work and named Maitland Citizen of the Year during the city’s official Australia Day celebrations. She was one of 16 nominees – none of whom had put their own hand up for the accolade.

Ms Steggles was recognised, among a range of achievements, for helping to establish Steggles Food Processing, which employs about 100 people as well as volunteer work with World Vision and several Hunter community organisations.
Sammy Seth was named Maitland’s Young Citizen of the Year. Among her achievements, she was recognised for passionately advocating for young people in her role as ambassador for Multicultural Youth Affairs Network.
Ms Seth has also been an integral part of Youth Parliament for the past four years.
