Now, the community’s favourite park is about to get even better. In coming weeks, council will begin a $4million upgrade that will see the construction of a central promenade, new modern lighting, the realignment of the shared path, and new shelters, barbecues and amenities.
Significantly, the project also involves the construction of the city’s first fenced dog park. Council is developing the enclosed area in response to requests from the community to provide a safe area to exercise and socialise their pets. The 10,000 square metre area between Walters Park and Cockle Creek will also encourage pet owners to interact and exercise.
Improving recreational facilities is an important aspect of council’s agenda to enhance Lake Macquarie’s reputation as a liveable city.
At the end of March, the community will be invited to comment on a proposal for a major upgrade of Thomas H. Halton Park at Croudace Bay, which also includes a fenced dog enclosure. Keep an eye out for the chance to provide feedback on haveyoursaylakemac.com.au
