There was an outpouring of grief on social media over the weekend after fire tore through the popular Redhead Beach Cafe.

The blaze caused “severe damage” to the cafe after it erupted at about 4am on Saturday. The rest of the Surf Lifesaving Club building suffered only superficial damage.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Greg Rankin said the cause was still under investigation but there were no indications it was suspicious. There were suggestions an electrical fault could have been to blame.
The cafe is a social hub for the beachside community and regulars were seen with tears in their eyes as the news circulated. The owners were too distraught to speak to the media, other than to say the building was “totalled”.
“Just letting you all know there will be no coffee...hopefully working with The Surf Club to re open or re-locate [sic] so we can be open again,” they wrote on Facebook.
Over 150 people responded to the post, several suggesting a crowdfunding campaign or working bee.
It comes less than 12 months after an explosion at a toilet block adjacent to the Surf Lifesaving club.
