The Merewether 34-year-old admitted he “avoids the trainer at all costs” but will make an exception on August 4 when he takes on the Variety Spin 4 Kids six-hour challenge at Harbour Square, Honeysuckle.

The event will be staged on 60 stationary bikes outdoors and is raising funds for Variety, the Children’s Charity, which helps disadvantaged and sick children in our region. It is open to teams or individuals.

Mr Coubrough, who owns personal training and fitness business Stroke No Limits, is the first individual to sign up and believes six hours on a stationary bike “will be more of a mental challenge than a physical one”.

“I don’t mind a bit of a cycle,” Mr Coubrough said. “But I usually avoid trainers at all costs.

“When it’s raining or the weather is bad, I’m still out on the roads training.

“But I love a challenge and like to do things like this to keep challenging myself and to inspire others.”

Variety regional director Jason Bourke said the event supports the charity’s schools program, which provides cash scholarships of up to $5000 for local children living with disabilities or experiencing financial hardship who show promise in sport.

“We want to see who is the best emergency services team, fittest bank, insurance company and accountants,” Mr Bourke said.

“It’s also designed for social groups, friends and families.”
