The league’s defending champions lost 7-4 and 4-1 to Melbourne Ice and need to return to the winners’ circle at home.
Newcastle have four games left in the season proper, all at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium, starting with their clash with the Melbourne Mustangs on August 13 at 4pm.
They are also at home on August 19, 20 and 26.
