Town coordinator, Rhonda Campbell, said the business community welcomed the festival’s move to Wallsend and said it was a big win for the entire region.
“Wallsend Park is a central and a convenient place for the people of the Hunter,” she said.
“It’s picturesque parkland provides plenty of room for the festival’s expanded program in 2017.”
The week long festival will offer a full program of family entertainment, including energetic stage entertainment, amusement rides, baby animal farm, circus, sideshows, showbags, market stalls, free activities and prizes for children of all ages.
Mattara will be open every day from September 30 until October 1, between 10am and 4pm.
A family concert will be held on October 1, featuring the Jumpin Jukebox Rock and Roll Band. It kicks off at 4pm and will culminate in a fireworks show from 7pm.
The Mattara Festival committee’s Britt Osborne said the event was timed to coincide with school holidays.
“There will be plenty of fun and activities for kids of all ages in the reinvigorated Mattara Program with something new and different each day,” Ms Osborne said.
Entry to 2017 Mattara Festival at Wallsend is free.
Tickets for carnival rides and a full program of activities and entertainment are available at mattarafestival.org.au or follow on Facebook and Instagram.
