Council’s acting manager leisure services, Jeff Green, said in a city graced with beautiful waterways and great beaches, teaching our children to swim is one of the most essential things we can do.
“Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death in children under five worldwide, and in Australia, one person on average drowns every week. Teaching children to swim early is the best prevention,” Mr Green said.
“To celebrate we’re offering 20 per cent off the first week of our school holiday intensive learn-to-swim program, September 25 to September 29, at Charlestown, West Wallsend and Swansea Swim Centres. Get in quick, places are limited.”
Also on offer is free first aid sessions during Learn2Swim Week, just pay the pool entrance fee. These sessions will teach you how to perform CPR on children and adults, what to do when children are choking and general water safety, as well as first aid skills.
