Frontman Campbell Burns said he “woke up screaming” in response to an email on his phone confirming their place on the line up.
“I sent off an application for it on a whim… and we actually got through,” he laughed.
Thanks to the wonders of the internet, the band already has a large international following in the US, UK, Europe and South America. But the SXSW coup would give them the chance to embark on their first international tour. Vacations will drop a new single on November 20.
Lake Macquarie indie-rock outfit Brightness, the brainchild of Alex Knight, will also perform at SXSW from March 12 to 18.

A NIGHT of feminist trivia will be held at the Gallipoli Legion Club on December 8.
It kicks off at 7pm and cost $5 per person to play.
