The Waratah-Mayfield Cheetahs have recorded an undefeated start to their season, including a tight 14-12 victory over Woy Woy in their third match.
They are just two points ahead of West Newcastle, who also remains undefeated, though the second-placed squad took a different route to the top of the table.
West’s first two matches saw dominant performances over Woy Woy and Carrington, with the former a 40-0 flogging and the latter a little closer at 20-0.
From not conceding a try, Wests then struggled to break two deadlocks in a row – draws against South Lakes Roosters (10-10) and Berkeley Vale (12-12) left them looking up at their fellow Newcastle side.
The Carrington Pirates have had mixed success, with one win and a forfeit result in four games leaving them in sixth place, and Glendale sits equal to them with two wins and two losses – both teams have earned four points so far.
In the Under 18s Wests have struggled to crack the top sides, currently sitting second last after just one win in four outings.
Glendale has also had mixed fortunes, competing in the Under 16s fixtures with two wins and two losses to leave them fifth.
