"Surely the day we celebrate Australia as a nation should be one that can be enjoyed by everyone in our community. It doesn't take much in the way of consideration or empathy to understand why celebrating on January 26 is hurtful to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people," Cr Mackenzie said.
