Situated next door to each other and connected by a covered walkway, the Hippocrates Australian Greek Aged Persons Association and Fronditha Care’s nursing home residents have been very close.
Hosting weekly bingo games and offering their function centre to the residents for activities, the partnership goes back to when the nursing home was first constructed in 2011.
To make sure their neighbours are well looked after, the association will once again host their major fundraiser and donate all funds to Fronditha Care.
The Masquerade Party will be held on February 24, and will add a bit of sophistication and drama to the charity event.
As always, the residents and their families are invited, while local state politicians and councilors will be on the guest list.
Hippocrates Association President Anna Marendy says the event coincides with the Greek cultural celebration of the “Apokries”, or “Carnival”.
Masks and colourful costumes are traditionally worn during Apokries, which celebrates the three week period before lent.
“There will be plenty of food and local Newcastle band the Shedmasters will also be performing,” she said.
Residents who can’t attend the evening event will be celebrating during the week with the activities centered on making and decorating their own masks.
Tickets are $40 which includes champagne on arrival and a three-course meal. To book, call 0410 597 859.
