A catchy tune, and accompanying video, Make Hey!, were launched on the band’s Facebook page on Saturday.
The song is all about making the best of a bad situation, something Pete Porker reckons he knows a thing or two about.
“The last decade (was) clouded with the breakdown of relationships, friendships, line up changes, and a five year hiatus,” Mr Porker said.
The band will release a new, yet to be titled, album this year. A reissue of 1998’s Hot Dog Daiquiri on vinyl will also be out in time for its 20th anniversary.
Catch them at the Wickham Park Hotel on February 23.
SPEECH NIGHT
Newcastle’s night of nights, Speech Night, is back in 2018 bringing with it an array of quirky and unusual, but always highly informative, speeches by non-experts.
On February 22, Claire Fitzgerald will discuss the idea that “boys will be boys and girls will be …”. That’s a pretty suspenseful speech name.
John McKenzie will speak on Marvel: Post-religious mythology. The third speaker, Miette Xenith, will introduce you to the amazing women who have been left out of history.
Speech Night is held at the Royal Exchange, 34 Bolton Street. The doors open at 7.30pm and just a measly $5 will get you through them.
Valentine’s Day
Newcastle’s Soda will serenade the loved up with their smooth jazz sounds on February 14 for Valentines Day under the rotunda at King Edward Park.
Bring a blanket, the one you love, and don’t forget your single friends, to enjoy an evening of food and music.
Tasty food offerings include fun mexican fare from El Poco Loco, délicieux handmade éclairs by CHOUX Patisserie and Kid & Cat, specialising in French crepes. Retro Kombi Co will be on hand to meet your caffeine requirements.
Plus, there will also be whimsical and wild posies available from Two Wild Hands and a free photo-both in which you can be snapped with your Valentine and take home a free magnet to stick on your fridge – now that’s romantic.
The love-in in King Edward Park kicks off at 6pm. Secure your patch of grass early.
