DEBUT FOR SUE
NEWCASTLE talent Steel City Sue has released a teaser for her much anticipated and long awaited debut album.
The first single, From the Valley, off the soon to be released 11 track album Boom Town was released last week.
In 2017, Morley travelled to Kansas to record with Mike West, of Truckstop Honeymoon, at The 9th Ward Pickin' Parlor.
The pair met at Woodford Folk Festival in 2001.
The material draws on the things Morley occupies her mind with.
“Songwriting is just stuff I’m thinking about,” Morley said. “Whether that be a broken heart or local politics.”
Morley has been writing her own material for years, but had been reluctant to record and release her tunes.
“It was a confidence thing,” Morley said. “I had just been quietly writing songs in my head, processing life and ideas.
“But, I’d always play in other people’s bands and play other people’s music.”
However, with the encouragement of a few of her musical friends she took the plunge.
A second single Anymore will drop on February 28, a third single It’s Never Enough will follow, with the entire album due for release by April.
You can download the singles on her BandCamp page: steelcitysue.bandcamp.com/releases
Note: this journalist has heard the entire album and reckons it’s awesome.
