“It explores the connection between two people and challenges the traditional constraints of time and space,” Michelle said.
“It’s essentially a celebration of being in the moment, that two people can experience, starting as perceived strangers.
“Through embracing this moment, an intimacy is created by sharing a few minutes, by looking into the eyes of someone, the window of truth to their soul.”
The props are simple: a table and two chairs, but the performance itself is more complex and layered.
“The audience is invited to participate,” Michelle said. “There is the audience between myself and the person I am sitting with and the audience watching us.
“Through the intimacy of the person who sits opposite me, that opens a reflection of themselves and celebrates the preciousness of the togetherness that this opportunity brings.
“It’s like opening a navigational compass to your own sense of being. There is a spiritual truth that in life we are all mirrors to one another and often what we see and experience can be a reflection of our own inner spectrum.
“Do You See What I See encourages loving acceptance. It gives the individual the opportunity to explore themselves, while opening dialogue to the truth that we are all one.”
Michelle, a Novocastrian, commenced her career in theatre at the age of 6 at Young People’s Theatre. She worked as a drama teacher and director, before landing a job with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
At the age of 25 she threw it all in to become a DJ, which saw her travelling the world for 10 years. In 2016 she returned to Newcastle where she is studying psychology.
Do You See What I See will be staged at The Wesley Church on March 24 and 25, at 4.30pm.
The Newcastle Fringe Festival will bring 27 performances, across six venues, to Newcastle from March 21-25.
