Although most of the remaining contestants in the Southern Conference currently play in the top two divisions in the region, there’s hope for the lower grades in a mix of fixtures.

Dudley Redhead United has drawn one of the toughest fixtures of the round, as they welcome NPL’s Valentine to Lydon Oval, while both Cardiff City and Swansea have drawn League One teams Cessnock City and Thornton respectively.

Interestingly, Raymond Terrace and Garden Suburb’s fifth round clash at King Park in May will mean a team from the Zone Premier League reserves will be appearing moving on as one of the final sixteen teams when the Northern NSW region re-joins in the sixth round.

Lake Macquarie City and Maitland will be one of the headline clashes of the round as the two NPL teams face off for a chance at the next leg of the competition, while Hamilton Azzurri will face Charlestown City Blues to Lisle Carr Oval in the “Azzurri derby”.

After the draw reveal, Azzurri’s Facebook page lit up in excitement: “We are the original Azzurri and unlike the imposters from Charlestown, we didn’t turn our back on our culture and history by changing our name.”

“Our prayers for the Azzurri derby have been answered, we have been drawn against Charlestown City Blues. We are seeking revenge for the hundreds of Italian families around Newcastle who shed tears back on that fateful day in 2009 when the once proud Highfields Azzurri … turned into that horrible maroon-wearing monstrosity we see today.”
