In a town of little more than 10,000 people, organisers of the Anzac Day dawn service at Medowie were very pleased with the turnout.

“We had about 1000 people, and for a town this size it’s quite incredible,” Medowie RSL Sub Branch president Ian Harding said.
“Considering the weather we really appreciated it.”
Rain began to fall softly before dawn as the service personal, past and present, marched up Ferrodale Road to the memorial.
The elderly gripped their umbrellas and children clung to their parents as the showers persisted, intermittently.
In turn the dignitaries and family members of those lost took turns laying wreaths.
“One of the things that really impresses me about this service is the community spirit, with so many groups involved from the Rural Fire Service to Lions, Rotary and Tidy Towns,” Mr Harding said.
“So many community groups are involved.”
