Album Stupidity topped the charts in the UK.
The last album to feature founding member Lee Brilleaux, Down At The Doctors, was recorded live at the Dr Feelgood Music Bar on Canvey Island just two months before he died in 1994.
The current line-up features rhythm section Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass, Steve Walwyn on guitar and the most recent addition, Robert Kane (formerly of The Animals).
Jazz festival
More than 200 musicians have already been confirmed for this year’s Newcastle Jazz Festival (August 24 to 26). There will be traditional and mainstream jazz; big bands; swing; blues; jazz pianists; swamp; pre-western swing and gospel, to name a few. The festival is held at New Lambton’s West Leagues Club in the Starlight Room, Marble Bar and The Terrace. Tickets cost as little as $30 for a session pass and $105 for an early-bird full weekend pass (must be purchased by June 30). For information go to newcastlejazz.com.au.
Taking us back
Due to popular demand, Jon Stevens is hitting the road for a “best of” tour, covering all the hits of his career: from solo work, to Noiseworks, INXS, The Dead Daisies and Jesus Christ Superstar. Gigs: Lizotte’s on May 24, Belmont 16s on June 23.
Sun sets on gig
KOFM Sunset Sounds is over before it began. The concert had a date (November 3) and a venue (Roche Estate) as well as a decent Aussie line-up, but it has since been cancelled. Empire Touring had this to say: “Due to unforeseen circumstances that cannot be resolved in the short term, Empire Touring have made the regrettable decision of postponing Sunset Sounds to a new date in 2019. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused anybody.”
Wheels Up tour
Newcastle-based band Hurricane Fall are fast developing a fan base with their unique brand of rock-edged country. To coinside with the new single the band have embarked on a national tour which commenced at the beginning of the month.
