Newcastle will be home to a permanent electric-bike sharing scheme to be launched in the city on Monday.

There will be 100 electric bikes across 19 charging stations as a new transport option for tourists, commuters and anyone else who wants to cruise around the city.
Docking station include The Junction, Bar Beach, Wheeler Place, Newcastle Interchange, NewSpace, the foreshore, Customs House, Newcastle Library, Darby Street and Kuwami.
Hunter firm BYKKO trialled the scheme, billed as an Australian first, for three months in Newcastle two years ago with three bikes and one docking hub, but the new system looks to be on a far grander scale.
The Mobility Parc docking stations are made by Swiss e-bike firm WattWorld. The electric bikes will be securely locked and charged in the bike docks and must be returned to a docking station.
Electric bikes can be hired by anyone 18 years plus, at any time of the day on a one-off basis or by subscribing to a weekly or monthly membership.
Pay-as-you-go starts at $5.99 for 30 minutes and costs go up to a $49 monthly membership.
The bike scheme launches at 10.30am on Monday, when more details will be released.
