Last weekend and last week proved to be ideal autumn fishing weather and this weekend should offer much of the same again - however some ground swell from the constant westerlies may persist into the weekend.

As my crystal ball can be hard to read that far in advance, care should always be taken when venturing off shore or onto the rocks.
We headed offshore on the Sunday and were rewarded with an excellent mix of fish from the southern reefs of Wybung. Fishing in around 30 metres of water we managed to pick up a lot of good-sized tailor off the bottom, along with some great trag, however we only managed one good snapper of round 45cm. We were plagued with lots of undersized snapper in stark contrast with the recent run of larger sizes. Evidently, it wasn’t our day for the big reds. We then ventured closer to shore around 15 metres of water off Caves Beach and managed to drift up around a dozen nice sand-flathead to 50cm. Newcomer to Swansea RSL Fishing Club John Berenschot fished with us and was rewarded with his first deep sea catch as per picture. In the lake the tailor are still going to nuts with plenty of fish being trolled on deep diving lures throughout the lake.
