There are plenty of fish about for those keen and or crazy enough to go chasing them.
Swansea RSL Fishing Club last week recorded quite a few captures consisting of mainly bream and tailor.
The bulk of these have been taken from the lake and the channel with the usual winter time salmon still parked in the channel between the bridge and the ocean.
Squid numbers in the lake have proven to be very low this season making it hard for jew fisherman seeking these for fresh bait.
I fished off shore last week with former soccer great Titch McLelland for a nice bag of small snapper to 38cm of Swansea in some wild conditions.
These large and small snappers will also continue to run all through winter up and down the coast and are responding especially well to pilchards and fresh baits. Green eyed squid in the offshore kelp beds are about in good numbers also.
So far, no reports of any boaters coming to grief with the floating shipping containers and hopefully that’s the end of the matter.
On the Water this Week:
TEMPS: 16 – 17 degrees
Visibility: good 6 – 8 metres
Tides: low, mid-morning
Moon: dark
Swell: picking up
