Fish were caught in abundance with near perfect conditions allowing both senior and junior anglers alike to take record catches for the club. Most notable were sizes and numbers of drummer being taken with several anglers recording bag limits easterly with fish up to 2kg the norm.
Also taken in large quantities were black fish, bream, tarwhine and tailor.
Champion angler went to Matt Pritchard with 17.5kg cleaned, Junior Champion was Ryan Judd with 17kg cleaned. Pritchard also took out the most meritorious fish with a large drummer.
These fish should be indicative of the type beach and rock fishing up and down our coastline for this time of year. Large numbers of drummer, bream and black fish are being caught off rock platforms from Newcastle right through to Wybung. Offshore snapper is still in full swing with lots of medium-size fish still being taken from 20-30 metres. Salmon schools are still thick in the channel and around moon Island, some flathead out wide are still available on the drift.
On the Water this Week:
TEMPS: great, 22 degrees
Visibility: very good
Moon: half of 3/4
Swell: coming up
Tides: high around 12pm
Visibility: average
