Readings Cinemas have picked up the Luke Sparke-helmed movie, with the first screening set nation-wide for July 12. Independent movie chains have also picked up the film, meaning towns and cities without a Readings location will still have access to the upcoming blockbluster.
Garred revealed it was “extremely pleasing” to see the film embraced in his own country with open arms.

“Given this is an independent Aussie action film, a result like that in the most commercial film market in the world is immense,” he added. “I couldn’t be happier for the director and producers.”
The news comes weeks after Occupation’s trailer debuted at the number one on Apple Trailers, a release Garred believes is “unreal”. After debuting at the top spot, it remained in Apple’s top six for another week. The trailer is still in the top 20.
The world premiere will be held in Sydney on July 10, before being released in cinemas in America on July 20 and New Zealand on July 26. Tickets for Readings screenings are available at readingcinemas.com.au/movie/6530.
