The idea for Surf Trash was born on the waves, and began as a post-surf jam ‘sesh’ that grew into something more.

Lead vocalist and drummer Andrew Scott explains the vibes “just felt right” when they were all “mucking around”.
“We’ve always just loved playing music together, and jammed out all the time, so it kind of grew from there,” Scott explained.
“After a surf one day Lachlan (Jackson, the band’s lead guitarist) jumped on the guitar, and my brother Nicholas [Scott] was on bass and we all just got jamming together.
“It was after hearing us all together that we decided we wanted to see if we could take it a little further, and now we’ve just been gigging non-stop.”
As well as air-time through the Triple J Unearthed program, 97.3FM radio and thousands of streams on their Spotify profile, Surf Trash truly have been non-stop gigging, playing thirteen shows since their formation in April of this year.
As well as combining with other popular bands in the genre like The Sea Gipsies and Mesa Cosa, the young Newcastle three-piece band supported The Bennies recently at The Small Ballroom on June 29.
Scott also revealed the band is looking forward to “as many gigs as we can get to”.
The whole band also put their support behind the all-age music scene growing into the future.
“Definitely something we’re passionate about, we love getting out with the young music community and there’s always such a good vibe,” Scott said.
“We want to bring out our five-track EP for everyone to share around a bit of that love. A lot of people have reached out along the coast to play so we want to make sure that can happen.”
Surf Trash will play their next gig in Coffs Harbour, at the Keys Youth Hub on West High Street.
They will be joined by The Fingerz and Peace & Mayhem, and the event will be free and all-ages.
