This year’s awards will feature 18 categories, including new business (less than two years in operation), NEIS (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme) business, hospitality and tourism, health services, not-for-profit, professional services and many others.
It’s an “exciting” number of finalists this year, Hunter Business Chamber chief executive Bob Hawes said, as the Chamber prepares to acknowledge the region’s “most successful organisations and business people”.
“The finalists reflect the diversity, hard work and success of business in the Hunter,” Mr Hawes said. “I’m amazed at the feats they have achieved and it will be an honour to recognise their efforts.”
Mr Hawes also revealed more than 500 people are expected to attend and take part in the awards ceremony on August 10. Finalists have been advised of their inclusion in the award shortlists.
In the Star’s recent news
The event was first held in 1993 as the Cessnock-Kurri Kurri Small Business Awards; and eventually became known as the Lower Hunter Business Excellence Awards after encompassing the Maitland and Dungog shires.
In 2007 the awards were renamed the Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards and were opened to businesses throughout the entire Hunter region.
The recipients of the Hunter Business Awards for 2018 will be presented at a gala function at NEX (Wests City), Newcastle West on Friday, August 10.
