On Thursday a number of women who have had their lives touched by ovarian cancer, and are currently battling the flow-on effects of the diagnosis and condition, appealed for people to support the Hope4Cure Christmas in July fundraiser.
The ticketed event is set to be held at the Newcastle Club on July 21.
Among those spreading the message was local radio personality Jill Emberson, who herself has ovarian cancer, as well as one of the faces of the fundraiser Danielle Wright, a young 27-year-old mother who has also been diagnosed.
Recently appointed Board Chair for Hope4Cure, Karen Howard, also spoke at the appeal about the necessity of such fundraisers, and explained that “support” was the key objective once money had been raised.
“Hope4Cure will be setting up a grant fund which will hold 100% of funds raised from the Christmas in July event. We will work with the Mater hospital to administer these funds to local clinicians for their research or to fund clinical trials.” Ms Howard said.
“This is about locals helping locals and ensuring that 100% of the funds raised go directly to valuable research and/or clinical trials.”
Hope4Cure founder Sarah Frith also attended the Thursday appeal, and said “100 per cent of the money raised from the event [will] go towards a grant fund”, to be administered by the charity and the Calvary Mater.
“All of the funds will stay in the Hunter Region,” Ms Frith explained. “Hope4Cure is about locals supporting locals, and we have had some wonderful support already.”
“These terrible cancers can touch anyone; not just the women that get the disease, but also their children, their husbands, their fathers, their friends and their colleagues.
“We invite anyone interested in having a wonderful winter evening to get together with friends and family and come along to this special event.”
Ms Frith also confirmed the night’s entertainment would be provided by an “internationally renowned” surprise act.
Tickets to the Christmas in July event are $150, available via hope4cure.org.au.
