Adamstown rose off the bottom of the Herald Women’s Premier League ladder and kept the Friendship Cup with a 5-1 win over Wallsend at The Gardens on Sunday.

Rosebud led the round 18 game 3-0 at halftime after a double from Lauren Allen and goal from Clare Cummings. Sophie Milton got one back for Wallsend but Olivia Trinka and Elodie Dagg scored to ensure the win.
It moved Adamstown equal with Wallsend on eight points but ahead on goal difference. They are two points behind fourth-placed South Wallsend, who lost 1-0 to Merewether on Sunday at Myamblah Oval.
The victory also put Rosebud and Wallsend equal on points across their four grades in head-to-head battles this year, meaning Adamstown retained the Friendship Cup contested between the two clubs.
“We were just clinical with our chances today. We took most of them, which we haven’t been doing,” Adamstown coach Paul Devitis said.
“We got the lead and we relaxed a bit and played some really nice stuff.”
Wallsend coach Marc Hingston said he had five starters out and he was happy with how his side played considering the setbacks.
Second-placed Merewether moved four points clear of New Lambton and four shy of Warners Bay with a deflected strike from Indie Asimus late in the first half. Merewether coach Cass Koppen was proud of the determination from her understrength side, who lost Tamara Nash (ankle) early in the second half.
