IT’S an unusual place for an art exhibition, but one Newcastle painter Patrick Mavety sees as an opportunity.
He currently has 11 works on exhibition at The Lincoln Room Barber at Coal & Cedar.
The works on paper and canvas are streetscapes of Newcastle, and most of them depict the inner-city at night.
“I’m always walking around at night time, because I’m working inside all day, locked up in a cement building during the daytime, “Maverty said.
“When I leave, that’s when I get to do my painting.
“They (the works) are just all the places I’ve lived where I find myself walking around a lot.”
The artist said when he moved to Newcastle from the Central Coast in 2014 it was a bit of a “culture shock”.
“Here, you can walk for 10 minutes and actually get somewhere interesting,” he said. “It’s just very different.”
Coal & Cedar is located at 380-382 Hunter Street.
The exhibition is open until mid-August.
