For the most part, Lynnette Baigent said, it’s been going quite well, and the reception from the region’s locals has been “wonderful”.
“We are the friendliest pharmacy on the lake, so we just wanted to do something, especially when its going to raise money for the John Hunter Hospital cancer ward,” Baigent explained.
“Everyone has really embraced it, we just ask our lovely customers if they want to make a donation when they come in and many of them get out a $10 or $20 note. It’s been going really well.”
So far the Doree Place pharmacy has raised more than $200 in their donation tin, and Ms Baigent said she hoped more people would embrace the charity drive before the end of the month.

From the pharmacy’s staff, Brooke Davies, Trudy Wood, Carlie Harvey and Amy-Lee Lawrence have all joined up to participate, and Ms Baigent said they had all been going quite well with the challenge, “for the most part”.
“I’ve pushed it a lot for all the staff and they’ve had it go down really well,” she said. “It was no alcohol all month, and we all feel a lot healthier I must say. We didn’t cut out chocolate or anything like that though.”
Although the challenge only has a fortnight to run, Ms Baigent also believes her improved health may lead to her keeping up the refusal of beer, spirits and wine.
“I might actually continue once everything has run its course in July,” she said. “I’ve been feeling so much better, it’s really nice.”
Dora Creek’s “friendliest pharmacy” is located at 2/8 Doree Place, and always has the Dry July tin available at the front counter if you are interested in making a donation.
