It’s an interesting venue for Hall’s tilt at a maiden title, if only for the fact the Aussie’s main competitor so far this year has been veteran American flyer Michael Goulian.
Despite the adversity of potentially facing his rival on ‘home soil’, Hall is looking forward to taking the skies over the superspeedway that also boasts NASCAR and IndyCar racing.
“It’s good to be returning to Texas, I always like being at a race venue that I have been to previously. It means I know the location, the environment and I think that will help,” Hall said.
“We’ve raced twice in Texas before, the first time was 2014 when the series first resumed after a three-year break and we were really finding our feet that year.
“The second year we flew well in Texas and we think this race will again be one reasonably well suited to us.”
Hall currently leads the championship standings by just two points (45 compared to Goulian’s 43), and will next have a chance to pick up another high ranking when the Air Race travels to Kazan in Russia at the end of August.
As the Merewether ace shapes at the man to beat at the midpoint of the series, Hall says he’s simply enjoying being the competition’s leading pilot, and isn’t allowing it to play on his mind too much.
“It’s nice to be leading the championship, but I’m not really thinking about it,” he said.
“We arrive at each race with the aim to get the best result that we possibly can. We only let the championship scenario enter our head if we make it to the Final 4 of a race, and then we make a strategic decision and decide if we race for the win or race for points.”
Hall takes to the skies again on August 25 for the qualifying races in Kazan. The next championship race will be aired on Fox Sports Australia, and will have replays on TEN Motorsport.
