A lot of these fish have been feeding close to shore in the afternoon, with a lot of these schools being within casting distance off shore base anglers. One needs only to keep an eye out for birds sitting or feeding on the surface giving away the location of these fish. Small metal casting lures around 45 grams size and deep diving big lures slow trolled around these areas are doing the damage.
Last week once again saw flat seas and good beach and rock conditions with good reports of drummer and black fish being taken off all ocean rocks in the Newcastle and Swansea area. With the calm seas and clear water very early and very late sessions are best for producing results.
Offshore anglers have been restricted to inshore waters with mainly small snapper and large schools of trevally. When conditions allow deep sea anglers fishing deep water in 72 – 80 faferm range have been producing large Bar Cod as pictured the fish of the week with some local anglers also finding them off Port Stephens areas.
On the Water this Week:
- Temperature: 15 degrees.
- Visibility: Clear.
- Moon: Waxing.
- Swell: Possibly coming up.
- Tides: High 6.30am/pm.
