Warners Bay’s seven year old dancing prodigy still has a lot of growing to do, but his next milestone may be when he clears the top of his massive Starpower National Dance Championships silverware – even with the dancing mohawk he’s a full head shorter.

Xavier Towers – who now boasts the title ‘Little Mr Starpower’ – has returned from a tour of the United States and a competition in Las Vegas with a towering trophy and a handful of honours after “wowing” the judges in the lyrical, contemporary and jazz categories.
The three category wins earned a spot at the Elite Title Awards on July 4, where he performed his jazz solo and claimed the under 8 trophy.
Although Towers had earned his way to the world titles in national events in Australia, to take out the top spots at such a young age was still “a bit of a shock”, the dancing star’s mother Simone Towers explained.
“It was really cool to go to Las Vegas, but we didn’t really have any idea how Xavier was going to go at the event to be honest,” Ms Towers said.
“In Australia when we go to nationals every January Xavier does quite well and makes top three most years, but America is so much bigger than our country and when you watch things like Dance Moms you see all this amazing talent and these great kids.
“We were so unprepared when he won that massive six foot trophy we had to ask the hotel we were staying at to help us break it down for travel, because we were so unprepared to be coming home with anything close to that kind of thing.”
As well as the championship berth Xavier had earned in Las Vegas, Ms Towers’ England Purton Dance Academy (EPDA) also took a handful of Novocastrian dancers to an event at Disneyland.
Ms Towers’ studio regularly takes groups of young dancers to events both in Australia or overseas, and this year the tour included Disneyland, Universal Studios, Madame Tussauds and events in Santa Monica.
“The whole group of kids had had about three hours sleep, it was 49 degrees and they all just did so well considering the conditions, it was just great,” she said.
“It’s also EPDA’s fiftieth anniversary this year so it was really special to have all of this fall on that massive milestone – we’re hosting our fiftieth concert on December 9 to celebrate and wrap up such an amazing year.”
The England Purton Dance Academy is located at 19 Dora Street, Mayfield, and 42 Longworth Avenue, Cardiff.
