The $2.5million overhaul includes new wider footpaths, shelters, BBQ areas and green space, but the playground is star of the show.
We're having a community party to celebrate this Saturday, September 1 from 10am to 12noon. Come along for heaps of free activities including circus performers, inflatables, jumping castles and face painters. Buy a sausage and a coffee on site or bring along a picnic.
Have a go at the rock and stick play spaces, ropes course, swings and the adventure tower with bridges, slide and fireman poles, all part of the 60m-long area offering nature-based play for toddlers through to tweens.
This playground lets kids be kids. They can get dirty, play hard and enjoy the outdoors, all in a safe setting and there is greater inclusiveness for kids with mobility challenges. Kids with wheelchairs are at the centre of the fun in a specially designed carousel, while a new pathway provides accessible entry.
For parking, enter via Freyberg Street but consider carpools or public transport as parking will fill quickly. Council staff will redirect you to alternate parking as needed.
Families with small children will be unloading and walking to the playground - let's make sure we have a safe and memorable day.
