As they say a drought on the land is a drought in the sea and the rain is desperately needed to get the fish moving.

A good example of this is the Hunter River which has to have good rain prior to the end of the year to get the river prawns running otherwise we will have another poor year like last Christmas.

Offshore fishing has been a bit hot and cold lately with average catches coming from local waters mainly due to flat and clear water with the deeper reefs wide of Nora Head proving better and the Mid North Coast areas fishing well for snapper, as per picture of the week.

Rocks are still fishing well for drummer; however care should be taken this week with the rough conditions.

The lake is slow with tailor your best option, and the channel still holding schools of salmon. Good catches of blackfish have been taken from the deeper rock walls along the channel either side of the bridge.

Fisheries last week released around 3000 juvenile kingfish into the lake as part of a research project into the species and their growth rates will be monitored.

Tides: High early and late.
