This should hold in the start of the new season and the next week or two should start to see rising temperatures in the ocean.
What will really kick off the summer of fishing will be the start of the annual prawn run which should possibly commence on the next dark of the moon.
Anglers are already seeing whiting and flathead starting to move in the channel and the whiting run on the beaches will commence in earnest once the ocean temperatures starts to climb towards 19 degrees celsius.
This coming weekend looks reasonable so far and the best options for anglers fishing the lake would be to look for tailor as they continue to bite. Also there are reports of plenty of whiting around the sand islands near drop over.
Good catches of bream are being reported around the bridge area with some salmon still lurking around between the bridge and ocean.
On the beaches anglers should be concentrating their efforts on tailor, salmon and bream with the stretch between Blacksmiths and Redhead proving to be best for local anglers.
Offshore cold water is still keeping things a bit quiet, however the reefs of Redhead beach and further south towards Catherine Hill Bay are providing small squire and lots of trevally with deeper reefs off Norah Head still proving to be better option when conditions permit.
On the Water this Week
Temperature: 16 degrees.
