All new equipment will be installed into the Hexham Street park as part of Lake Macquarie City Council’s playground renewals program.
The council’s asset manager, Helen Plummer, said the new playground will provide a modern play space for families in the Kahibah area to enjoy.
“The playground is planned to have new equipment such as a spider swing and infant swing, climbing structure and also new tables and chairs,” Ms Plummer said.
“Each year, council renews up to four playgrounds to ensure that our facilities continue to provide safe and engaging play spaces for children and families.
“Council thanks residents for their patience while these works are undertaken.
“The playground will be closed for about 8-10 weeks while replacement works are carried out.”
The playground is expected to reopen in early December 2018.
Ms Plummer added that the council is committed to providing recreational spaces for the community to enjoy which is why it was forecast to spend $4 million on improving parks and playgrounds in 2018-19 as part of its capital works program.
While construction takes place, the council is encouraging the community to use nearby playgrounds at Highfields Reserve in Highfields or Attunga Park in Charlestown.
