If approved, the American fried chicken store on Lambton Road would be next door to fast food rivals Hungry Jack’s and two blocks from McDonald’s.
Sandwich chain Subway is also located on the opposite side of Lambton Road.
Meanwhile, the new owners of Maryland shopping centre have lodged plans for a $2.2 million upgrade which would shift the Maryland Tavern to a new building on the site.
Documents lodged with Newcastle City Council say the 1980s centre has struggled to compete against the Coles and Aldi supermarkets in nearby Fletcher.
The new owners hope to improve the centre’s appearance and economic viability with the development.
They have tried repeatedly and unsuccessfully to attract Woolworths and Coles but now hope to sign a smaller supermarket retailer to the upgraded centre.
